About This Course

Special education law is a fascinating area of civil rights law. This CLE course will allow you to develop your knowledge in this area via an easy-to-understand format which walks you through the process of obtaining a free appropriate public education (FAPE) for a child with disabilities. Beginning with a brief history of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), this course highlights the important areas of the federal statutory law, federal caselaw and accompanying New York State law that you need to understand the legal needs of the student and represent parents and students in basic special education matters. The speaker will distinguish the areas where federal and New York State law diverge.
