This CLE provides an overview of the fundamental principles of patent law and the role of patent attorneys in advising and representing clients. The course follows the patent process from the conception and development of an invention through the preparation and prosecution of a patent application and ultimately the issuance of a patent. Topics also include the law of patent infringement, an introduction to patent litigation, post-grant review and other procedures for challenging issued patents, and patent licensing and other methods of commercially exploiting patent rights. The course is designed to provide practitioners with a practical foundation for understanding patent rights, enforcement, and commercialization.
