About This Course
Attorneys regularly encounter clients whose mental health conditions may affect communication, decision-making, responsiveness, expectations, and the attorney-client relationship. A client who sends multiple messages overnight, suddenly stops responding, disputes prior conversations, or shifts rapidly from expressing confidence in counsel to dissatisfaction may be experiencing an underlying mental health issue that requires a different approach.
This program will help attorneys recognize potential mental health concerns that may arise in client interactions and develop practical strategies for responding effectively and professionally. Topics will include identifying behaviors that may signal an underlying mental health condition, communicating with clients who are struggling, establishing appropriate boundaries and expectations, managing challenging attorney-client interactions, and determining when additional resources or professional assistance may be appropriate.
The program will also address how effectively managing these situations can reduce stress, improve attorney-client relationships, and help attorneys maintain professional boundaries and avoid burnout. The goal is not to diagnose clients, but to equip attorneys with greater awareness and practical tools for navigating challenging situations while providing effective representation.
