This CLE provides a practical overview of the fundamentals of patent law and the role of patent counsel in advising clients throughout the life of a patent. The course follows the patent process from the development of an invention through preparing and prosecuting a patent application and obtaining an issued patent. It also addresses patent infringement and enforcement, an introduction to patent litigation, post-grant review and other proceedings for challenging issued patents, and patent licensing and other ways to commercialize patent rights.

The course is designed to give practitioners a working understanding of patent rights and the legal and practical considerations involved in protecting, enforcing, and commercializing those rights.
