Student loan debt has surpassed $1.6 Trillion and more than 44 million borrowers are affected. It is critical for advocates to understand how to counsel student loan borrowers. Fundamentals of Student Loan Law explores various avenues for resolution of defaulted student loans, repayment options, loan forgiveness programs and administrative remedies available along with discharge of student loan debt in bankruptcy.

This CLE course will help you discern the differences between federal and private student loans. Learn the implications of default and strategies for getting out of default. Determine which repayment program is the best fit for your client. You will gain a clear understanding of the eligibility requirements and application process for loan forgiveness programs. In addition, you will gain a practical understanding of the treatment of student loans in bankruptcy.

Lecturer Bio

Natalie Jean-Baptiste, Esq.

Natalie Jean-Baptiste is a solo practitioner at Law Office of Natalie Jean-Baptiste, P.C., in Uniondale, New York, where she focuses primarily on consumer bankruptcy and student loan law. She is especially dedicated to assisting student loan borrowers in financial distress and founded a student loan counseling service to empower student loan debtors with the information and tools they need to manage their debt. Prior to launching her own practice, Natalie worked for many years in the music industry where she handled various contracts for superstar acts like Alicia Keys & Janet Jackson. She is a member of National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Ms. Jean-Baptiste earned her undergraduate degree from Fordham University, where she majored in Communication and Media Studies and minored in Business Administration, and her J.D. from New York Law School.
