About This Course
This CLE program teaches family law professionals how to support clients so they can take action and face their
case with self-awareness, understanding and strategy. Participants learn practical methods for
communicating with clients in emotional distress, keeping representation anchored to the client’s
objectives, securing full and early disclosure, explaining each stage of the process, and defining the role of
staff in client communication, all within the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar and Florida family law
procedure.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
Use a client’s current emotional and mental state to guide the timing and manner of communication
Identify the reasons the client has decided on, or is considering, a family law action, and use them to
guide the representation
Recognize common emotion-driven pitfalls in family law cases and apply strategies to avoid them
Encourage transparency and complete disclosure so the attorney can represent the client competently
Explain each stage of a family law case so the client can make informed decisions
Distinguish questions staff may answer from those that must go to the attorney
