This CLE course will provide an overview of how firefighters' duties intersect with search and seizure law under the Fourth Amendment. As first responders, firefighters are in a unique position in American society to enter private spaces if life and property are threatened. This course will review how the law balances safety with the reasonable expectation of privacy and aim to clarify misconceptions about what the fire service does when called to an emergency.
