About This Course

Every employer has employment policies…some are written…and some are verbal…and some are “understood.” The best practice for the employer is to compile all of these rules in one place…an Employee Manual.

This course will explore the ways that a well drafted Employee Manual may help satisfy the three functions that an employer must execute: (1) communicating Human Resources policies; (2) managing the risk of litigation by or on behalf of employees; (3) complying with the abundance of federal, state and local laws that govern the employer/employee relationship.

We will drill down into the language specifics that may be employed in various policy situations, which may involve more mundane issues such as dress codes and lunch break rules…or the key lawsuit prevention issues like Sexual Harassment Prevention Training and Disciplinary Procedures.

This course will be helpful to lawyers who service employers of all sizes. It will provide insights for all types of employment situations and will explore manuals for workers in offices, factories/warehouses and/or sales…and will explain why different approaches…or sometimes separate manuals…are necessary for each type.

In light of the Covid pandemic, we will also focus attention on policy issues for employees that work remotely.

This CLE program will be presented in two parts by management side employment law specialist Richard Waxman. Mr. Waxman is uniquely qualified to present this course since he has written and up-dated hundreds of Employee Manuals for his clients.

The initial portion of his presentation will be an over-view of the three management functions. That will be followed by a focused “nuts and bolts” discussion” of language for specific policies that satisfy at least one of the three functions.
