It has been several months since the release of ChatGPT and its passage of the Uniform Bar Exam with flying colors. Experts everywhere are projecting how generative AI is going to replace many lawyers in the next few years. Is generative AI going to change the way lawyers do business? “Yes.” Will lawyers lose their jobs to generative AI applications? “Maybe.” The true answer here depends on a lawyer’s mindset and preparation.

Let’s be clear, lawyers do not need to learn to code. However, we do need to understand certain AI basics. This course is going to dispel the hype, by leaning into what lawyers do best, namely, deconstructing the facts and getting to the bottom of things. In this course we will survey how AI is created, how AI and law overlap and diverge, the regulatory response to AI, and more. We will tackle this new technology from our unique vantage point, by “thinking like lawyers” who are simply faced with a new fact pattern.
