U.S. immigration law has special exemptions for immigrants who have special needs, or for immigrants who have family members with special needs. This CLE course will explore some of the more common ways that a practitioner may encounter these situations and go over strategies to help clients.

Lecturer Bio

Michael Campise, Esq.

Mr. Campise has practiced immigration for the past nine years in multiple jurisdictions. While in law school, in Washington D.C. he took a course in immigration law taught by a Sr. Attorney at the Department of Justice’s Office of Immigration Litigation. After graduating, he briefly worked in the foreclosure defense industry before returning to New York, where he started working at an immigration law firm as an associate attorney, and later became a partner until he established the Law Firm of Michael Campise, LLC in Fort Lee, NJ.

In this time, Mr. Campise has handled thousands of immigration matters: ranging from simple citizenship applications, to contested and complex legal issues, including: immigration fraud, alien smuggling, and criminal matters. He has also represented individuals under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). He has litigated matters in the Second, Fourth and Sixth Federal Circuits, achieving favorable results and remands, as well as in various federal district courts.

His first exposure to immigration law was personal – he petitioned for his wife – an Ecuadorian national (and now a U.S. Citizen). From this experience, he gained a passion for representing immigrants. Having a family member with special needs has also made him acutely aware of the support many families with children with special needs require.
