“Nobody Is Above the Law” is a review of the laws regarding the admissibility of a defendant’s statements in a criminal trial. This CLE lecture reviews the constitutional rights relevant to this subject matter, specifically, the Fifth, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments. It will also explain Texas law regarding the admissibility of a defendant’s confession and the differences between Texas law and Federal Law in this area.

Lecturer Bio

Adela Kowalski

Adela Kowalski-Garza is a practicing attorney with 30 years of experience in criminal law and criminal jury trials. She is not board certified. Kowalski-Garza is a graduate of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. She is a former federal prosecutor for the Southern District of Texas and is presently the first-chair prosecutor in the 404th District Court for the state of Texas in Cameron County.

She has taught in the criminal justice department since 2003 various criminal law and evidence classes, including Fundamentals of Criminal Law, Legal Aspects of Evidence, Forensic Evidence and Criminal Evidence and Proof. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwR4GY16ARrfx7xL22QFlEA .
