This CLE course covers recent case law and statutory changes involving New York Civil Practice. In particular, it covers areas of personal jurisdiction, service of process, subject matter jurisdiction, venue, pleadings, motion practice, statute of limitations and discovery. Recent cases include the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Damlier A.G v. Bauman and its possible long term effect on general jurisdiction (CPLR 301) in N.Y.S. There is also a discussion of the recent amendment to CPLR 3212 (b) regarding expert witness affidavits relating to motions for summary judgment. The course is a good overview for any lawyer whose practice involves civil litigation in N.Y.S. courts.
