Joseph Lewczak, Esq.
Joseph Lewczak is a partner in the Advertising, Marketing & Promotions; Entertainment, Media & Sports and Intellectual Property Practice Groups of Davis & Gilbert, and one of the country’s leading experts in advertising, marketing and promotions laws. He has extensive experience in representing a wide range of advertising and promotions agencies, advertisers and media companies on a broad array of issues relating to advertising, promotions, social media, native advertising and intellectual property. He is the founder and lead guitarist for the firm’s rock band, Generator Honey, two-time winner of the Advertising Week Battle of the Ad Bands.
Mr. Lewczak has been recognized as a leading lawyer for advertising law by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business for nine consecutive years (2008-2016). The Legal 500 United States directory has also recognized him for eight consecutive years (2009-2016) in the area of advertising and marketing. In addition, Mr. Lewczak has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America in advertising law (2011-2017) and in media law (2017) and was named the 2017 Media Law "Lawyer of the Year" in New York City. He was also selected as a Super Lawyer by New York Metro Super Lawyers (2013-2016).
Mr. Lewczak takes a practical approach to advising his clients, always ensuring that deals are completed as quickly and efficiently as possible while limiting accompanying risk exposure. His extremely broad knowledge base and his expertise are invaluable in helping clients navigate the converging landscape of traditional, digital, social and mobile media. He is an expert in drafting and negotiating a wide array of agreements including talent agreements, all manner of licensing agreements, and media buying and traditional agency services agreements.
Mr. Lewczak is a frequent public speaker on advertising, marketing, promotions and social media issues, and he has written extensively on these topics.
Mr. Lewczak served as an adjunct professor at New York Law School, where he taught advertising, marketing and promotions law. Prior to joining Davis & Gilbert, he was the director of legal affairs at EMI-Capitol Music Group North America and a corporate attorney at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP.
Karyl D. Bertrand
Karyl D. Bertrand earned her law degree in 1999 from the University of the Netherlands Antilles in Curacao (presently University of Curacao) and worked prior to that for 3 years at the University’s legal aid office where she dealt mainly with matters relating to contracts, labor and employment and family law.
Karyl’s graduate thesis Music Copyright in the Netherlands Antilles: an inquiry into the right of the maker of a music work to claim royalties” lead to a speaking engagement for the Curacao Author’s Association after which she launched a career as an attorney with one of the larger firms in Curacao where she continued working for 14 years until she founded Bertrand Legal in December 2013. Bertrand Legal provides legal services with regard to the Dutch Caribbean (Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten and Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba).
Karyl is fluent in English, Dutch, Papiamento and Spanish.
Karyl’s practice areas include intellectual property; labor and employment; contracts/licenses; advertising/marketing/promotion; health law; administrative law/regulatory matters; liability; corporate law; personal injury; civil law; civil procedure; litigation.
Karyl counsels local and international corporations (including media and pharmaceutical companies (manufacturers and importers/distributors), banks, courier companies, money transfer companies, clothing manufacturers), medical and educational institutions, non-profit organizations and individuals (including artists and athletes).
Karyl is a trademark agent since 2000 and as such assists local/international clients with trademark registrations, trademark portfolio management and intellectual property related matters in the Dutch Caribbean.
Throughout her career Karyl has provided several seminars and lectures on copyright, trademarks and trade names, employment law and contracts, including for the Curacao Musicians and Artists Association, the Curacao Chamber of Commerce and the Bureau for Intellectual Property.
Karyl was the sole contributing writer for the former Netherlands Antilles jurisdiction for INTA’s International Trademark Opposition Guide editions 2003, 2007 and 2008.
Karyl is also a lecturer on Legal Skills and Techniques and Employment Law for a Legal Assistant program in Curacao and provides in-house training on Legal Skills and Employment Law for companies and government institutions.
Conor Griffin
Conor Griffin is a solicitor in the firm of Duncan Grehan & Partners and specializes in advertising and marketing law. He is an expert on providing clearance advice on advertising copy, advising on passing off, trademark infringement, competitions, promotions, lotteries, lottery licenses and transactions and documentation associated with the industry, agencies and advertisers.
Hande Hançer
Hande Hançer is a partner at Gün + Partners specializing in intellectual property, life sciences and TMT practise groups of the firm. She has been involved in numerous projects on all fields of IP. Her involvement includes both contentious and non-contentious matters in relation to trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, domain names and unfair competition. She has an extensive litigation experience, counseled various foreign clients regarding their IP strategies, legal disputes, licensing and settlement agreements.
With regards to Advertisement and Media Law practice, she has been mainly involved in legal clearances of advertisements, promotional campaigns, product labeling and packaging issues. Hande is specialized in the advertisement and promotional activities with respect to the pharmaceutical products as well as food supplements.
Paula Fernandez Pfizenmaier
Paula Fernandez Pfizenmaier joined Randle Legal in January 2018 as partner of the IP + Advertising Law Group. She obtained her law degree from the Universidad Católica Argentina in 2002 and subsequently completed post graduate courses on contracts and other IP related matters. Besides, Paula is a registered Trademark Agent.
Ms. Fernandez Pfizenmaier advises clients on a wide range of Intellectual Property matters, including trademark prosecution and litigation, copyright, advertising regulation, rights clearance, contracts, privacy issues, sweepstakes and contest clearance.
Paula joins Randle from PAGBAM IP, where she served as Special Counsel of the IP and Advertising Law practice from 2006 to 2017.
She is admitted to the Bar of the City of Buenos Aires and to the Bar of the Province of Buenos Aires. She is a member of INTA and exclusive member of GALA (Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance) in Argentina.
Paula has been ranked in the Chambers 2011 and Chambers 2012 as an “Associate to Watch” in the “Leading Individuals Latin America Section”. She was also listed as individual within the Enforcement & Litigation ranking of the World Trademark Review (WTR) Publication in 2016 and mentioned as “rising star” in the WTR 2015.
Paula has participated in many INTA´s Committees over the past years. She is currently part of the Unreal Campaign Committee for the period 2018-2019.
Jenny Pienaar
Jenny is a senior partner in the Adams & Adams Trade Mark Department. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Stellenbosch in 1988 and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Cape Town in 1991. She was admitted as an attorney in 1994, and qualified as a trade mark practitioner in 2004.
Her areas of practice include all aspects of trade mark litigation; including, trade mark infringement, passing off and unlawful competition, trade mark opposition and cancellation matters before the Registrar of Trade Marks and the High Court; domain name registration, managing domain name portfolios for clients and filing complaints with domain name regulators to secure return of domain names for clients; all aspects of litigation relating to copyright; filing objections to the registration of company’s names; an advertising and regulatory advisory practice incorporating compliance advice for consumer protection related matters, packaging reviews and clearances in South Africa and Africa, advertising clearances and reviews, filing and defending complaints before the South African Advertising Standards Authority, and assisting clients with packaging compliance issues raised by the South African government’s Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Jenny is a fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL), a member of the Business Women's Association (BWA), the Licensing Executive Society, the Law Society of the Northern Provinces and the French/South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI). She is also a member of INTA and PTMG, is the chairperson of the Marketing Committee of GALA (Global Advertising Lawyer’s Alliance) and the President Elect of the Europe Middle East and Africa region of GALA. She regularly lectures to local design schools on aspects of advertising law and regulatory compliance and is a member of the Pretoria Arts Association where she and some of her fellow trade mark and commercial law partners offer free lectures to local artists. Jenny was one of the authors, along with several of her partners, for the Adams & Adams Practical Guide to Intellectual Property in Africa. She has also co-authored the following publications: South African chapter on the Life Sciences Multi Jurisdictional Guide for the years 2014 and 2015, the South African Chapter of the World Trademark Review of Pharmaceutical Trademarks 2015/2016.
Dr. Søren Pietzcker
Søren is a partner at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek in Hamburg, and in charge of the Intellectual Property and Advertising Law department. He is an Attorney at Law authorized to represent at all District Courts and Courts of Appeal in Germany as well as at the Federal Patent Court.
Søren writes and lectures on Intellectual Property issues such as advertising law, unfair competition law, ambush marketing and trademark law. Recent presentations include industry events in London, Warsaw, Washington and Chicago. He also teaches a class in IP Law at the University in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), International Trademark Association (INTA), International Bar Association (IBA), the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA) and the Argentinean-German Lawyers Association.
As an Intellectual Property lawyer he focuses on advising clients in the manufacturing industry as well as in the service industry including advertising agencies on all aspects of advertising law, unfair competition law, trademark law, and other aspects of Intellectual Property protection. This includes the responsibility for the application, opposition, maintenance and defence of national trademarks, European community trademarks and International Registrations as well as trademark infringement litigation, especially by way of preliminary injunctions. Søren also clears ad campaigns and sweepstake rules for international agencies and does transactional work in intellectual property matters.
He studied at the law schools of Tübingen/Germany, Geneva/Switzerland and Hamburg/Germany (doctor juris, 1994), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (LL.M., 1996); for his legal clerkship he worked in institutions in Hamburg, Madrid/Spain and Buenos Aires/Argentina. After working three years in a boutique firm specializing in trademark law and unfair competition, Søren joined Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek in 1999 where he became a partner in 2002. He speaks German, English, Spanish and French.
