David Aker, Esq.
David Aker is a Partner at Ohlandt Greeley & Perle LLP in Stamford, Connecticut. He earned his J.D. after working in a range of engineering and technical roles, bringing a strong technical foundation to his legal practice. Over the course of his career, he has practiced intellectual property law in both private firms and corporate legal departments, including serving as an Intellectual Property Law Attorney in the Research Division of IBM and as Chief Patent Counsel for the Analytical Instruments Division of the former Perkin-Elmer Corporation in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Before joining Ohlandt Greeley, Professor Aker maintained a private practice in Hartsdale, New York, where he advised Fortune 500 companies, startups, and individual clients on all aspects of intellectual property law on a global scale. In addition to his practice, he has had a long-standing academic career, teaching Patent Law and related courses at Touro Law Center since 1983. In recognition of his teaching, he received the Law Center’s first annual Adjunct Professor of the Year award in 1998. He also served on the faculty of the Practising Law Institute’s live Patent Bar Review Course in New York from 2006 to 2011.
Professor Aker is the co-author of “Patent Law: A Practitioner’s Guide,” Fourth Edition, originally authored by the late Ronald B. Hildreth of St. John’s University School of Law and published by the Practising Law Institute. Updated annually, this comprehensive single-volume treatise includes flow charts, forms, practice problems with answers, as well as the patent statute and regulations, making it a valuable resource for both those new to patent law and experienced practitioners seeking a reliable reference.
