Description

Like all other aspects of life, COVID has affected the litigation and resolution of disputes between landlord and tenants in New York City area. The enforcement of straight forward lease defaults such as the nonpayment of rent have become more difficult to navigate due to ever changing procedural requirements resulting from numerous Executive and Administrative Orders.

This lecture will summarize the current procedural stature of landlord/tenant litigation in the Civil and Supreme Court and provide a practical analysis of the litigation from the perspective of an owner/landlord of non-payment of rent, enforcement of guaranties in commercial leases and the ability to obtain possession of leased premises.

The lecture will also look at various approaches to the resolution of landlord-tenant disputes both in and outside of the courts.

Lecturer Bios

Christina M. Browne, Esq.

Christina Browne is a partner in the litigation department of Belkin Burden Goldman LLP a boutique real estate law firm in Manhattan. Christina has been practicing in this area of law for 12 years. Christina also writes articles for her firm newsletter and presented on topics within the firm.

Ms. Browne, practices in the Firm’s Litigation Department and handles cases in the Civil and Supreme Courts, including commercial disputes, landlord-tenant matters, and construction disputes. Ms. Browne also advises cooperative condominium board’s as to their rights in disputes with shareholders and commercial tenants

Noelle Picone, Esq.

Noelle Picone is a Partner of the firm Belkin, Burden, Goldman, LLP, who joined the firm in 2005 and became a Partner in 2015. Ms. Picone practices in the Firm’s Litigation Department and handles cases in Civil and Supreme Court, including commercial disputes, landlord-tenant matters, and construction issues.

Ms. Picone also advises cooperative and condominium boards as to their rights and remedies related to their shareholders, and both residential and commercial tenants. From 2014 through 2017, Ms. Picone taught classes at the “New Beginnings” program through Pace Law School on the subject of real estate law to attorneys who have been out of the work force and seeking to reenter the legal profession.

Ms. Picone has been chosen as a Super Lawyers, Rising Star selectee from 2014 through 2018.
