Lecturer Bio

Austin Smith, Esq.

Austin Smith is an associate at Taroff & Taitz specializing in commercial debt collection. Prior to joining Taroff & Taitz, Mr. Smith ran his own small firm that specialized in consumer class actions. As part of his practice, Mr. Smith successfully overturned 20 years of case law and established new precedent at three federal circuit courts of appeals that a certain category of private student loans were dischargeable in bankruptcy.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association and is on the Advisory Board of Upsolve, a tech nonprofit which provides free bankruptcy services to low-income individuals. In his spare time, he competes in triathlons, writes fiction and produces a podcast on Greek Tragedy.
