About This Course

This CLE course will provide you with a working understanding of basic special education law. Key topics we will cover include the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the differences between the two laws, a school district’s obligation to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE), referrals, evaluations, eligibility, least restrictive environment (LRE), Individualized Education Programs (IEP), the dispute resolution process, the family’s role in the process and many more. We will also leave time for a discussion for some possible implications if cuts to the U.S. Department of Education occur.
