About This Course
Practicing lawyers must be aware of their ethical obligations and comply with their jurisdiction’s disciplinary rules. This CLE presentation will provide keys to ethics and the ethical management of the lawyer’s practice and law office and will discuss and provide important information on the following topics: lawyer competence and compliance with the rules, including technology; the lawyer’s ethical duties in supervising lawyers and non-lawyers and the subordinate lawyer’s ethical duties; dealing with conflicts of interest, including current client, former clients, and the lawyer’s personal interests; ethical requirements to maintain client confidentiality and the exceptions to the rule; ethical client intake and client file and records management, including technology requirements for maintaining records electronically and in the “cloud”; ethical client file closing and records management; ethical non-engagement and disengagement communications; ethics and billable time; ethical fees and fee agreements; and IOTA/IOLTA trust account basics.
