About This Course

This CLE course addresses an interesting new area of environmental law: emerging contaminants in our drinking water. The course will primarily discuss the federal environmental statute that seeks to protect our drinking water supplies, the Safe Drinking Water Act. While there are many contaminants that are regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act, there are new contaminants, called “emerging contaminants” that remain unregulated and are impacting the safety and quality of drinking water supplies across the country. In this course New York environmental attorneys James Rigano, Nicholas Rigano and Alyse Delle Fave will explore the complicated process by which a new contaminant becomes a regulated contaminant, as well as, detail the health risks, routes of exposure, litigation history, state regulation, treatment methods and associated costs of two high profile emerging contaminants: 1,4-dioxane and PFOS/PFOA.
