The pervasiveness of the iPad in today’s culture is undeniable. With over 40 million sold worldwide since its launch, it is estimated that by 2015, Apple will have shipped 150 million iPads. And while many manufacturers have since developed similar tablets, there’s no question of Apple’s dominance in the market. In fact, even in those sectors that have customarily resisted its allure, the iPad is making headway. The most notable of these is with regards to law. Reports have shown that a growing number of firms have begun distributing iPads to their attorneys who are using the specially designed apps to review and annotate documents, read briefs and pleadings, access court rules, take notes in meetings and hearings, access calendars and contact lists, conduct research on Westlaw and Lexis and log billable hours. In fact, USA Today reports that lawyers are even using them in mediation, providing the mediator with an iPad preloaded with video interviews, case documents and even case animations.
