CA MCLE Requirements

Total CLE Requirements:

25 credit hours every three years of which 4 hours in area of ethics, 1 hour in Elimination of Bias & 1 hour in Substance Abuse. All credit hours can be satisfied through NACLE.

Accreditation Info

All courses offered by the National Academy of Continuing Legal Education are approved for CLE credit in California as NACLE is an accredited provider in California, Provider #11481. You can find our CLE provider listing on the California Bar website at: http://members.calbar.ca.gov/search/cert_detail.aspx?PID=11481&SpecCode=. Attorneys can earn all 25 hours with the National Academy of Continuing Legal Education. Self Study credits can be earned in any format. Participatory credits may be earned by choosing our CD-Rom or Online format. You may also earn participatory credit for listening to Audio CD or DVD formats if you listen and review the written materials in the presence of a witness (and complete our CLE Witness Affirmation form). You may satisfy all your specialty requirements through any medium chosen. In order to receive participatory credit, the State Bar of California MCLE regulations require that you listen to the audio CDs and review the written materials in the presence of a witness. The witness does not need to be an attorney, but can be an attorney. Listening to Audio CDs (without witness affirmation) may be used for the self study half (12.5) of your MCLE requirement

Credit for participating in an education activity may not be earned forward from one compliance period to another.

The State Bar of California amended Rule 2.1.2 of the MCLE Rules and Regulations to remove emotional distress as a specific requirement.

Attorneys are broken up into 3 groups by last names: A-G then H-M and last group is N-Z. Groups rotate and attorneys are due February 1st.

Members are required to comply online under “My State Bar Profile” www.calbar.ca.gov by attesting under penalty of perjury that the member has complied with the education requirement or is exempt and the nature of the exemption. Attorneys who are unable to comply online must contact the State Bar’s Member Services Center (888)-800-3400.
